Tax hits shipping fees, penalties hit product descriptions, rates are stuck on capacity — three pressures converging on the same landed cost today
Why this tax is appearing now: TikTok Shop has switched its Malaysian logistics entity from Singapore's Tokgistics Pte. Ltd. to the local TikTok Shop (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., which turns delivery services into a locally taxable service, with the 6% Service Tax landing on the actual shipping fee rather than the merchandise price. Doing the math: a seller shipping 3,000 orders monthly at an average shipping fee of RM8 spends RM24,000 monthly on shipping, incurring roughly RM1,440 in new SST; layer on top of that the platform support fee of RM0.50 per successful delivery (RM0.54 including 8% SST) that took effect from 15 February, and 3,000 orders means another RM1,620. Two fee increases within seven months, both charged per-order rather than as a percentage of revenue—sellers with lower average order values and higher order volumes bear the heavier burden.
